Love and blessings,
How often do we hang on to unwanted junk just in case we might need it someday in future? And that day might never come!
But we keep on buying new things and hang on to old ones. Adding more clutter in our homes and lives and making a dent in our bank accounts. And why is that? Is it because we link our happiness to the things we own or is it simply because we are just lazy?
Decluttering is needed at all levels to move on. Perhaps that’s why people are required to clean up their homes before an important festival in almost all religions with the sole purpose of inviting renewed energy in your lives.Be it Eid or Diwali or Christmas, the first step to celebrations is house cleaning.Getting rid of the old and the unwanted makes way for the new.
Diwali is around the corner and as always,we have started with cleaning up the house days in advance. But this year,I have decided to focus on decluttering my home instead of just cleaning it.
It’s almost fifteen days to go and I have decided to get rid of ten things a day till Diwali. That means, my house will be short of 150 unwanted things in just fifteen days. And no,I am not just going to throw away things.I am going to pick ten things everyday-things that have lost value for me but might be useful for someone else and give them away.
Leo Babauta mentioned in one of his posts that to be successful in any of your commitments, make it public. Then you are more likely to fulfil it.This is the reason I am posting my challenge in this post. Making my intentions public will remind me of my commitment and help me in achieving the desired end.I will post about the fifteen days Diwali decluttering challenge after it ends and share my experiences.
It is not impossible to make your life simpler. What it requires is a firm commitment and a belief in your capabilities.
